One
evening back in February 2015, I was scrolling through my Facebook homepage, reading posts, liking
photos, and commenting on them when I came across a post written by Jamicka Edwards, an author and motivational speaker. I don’t know how our paths crossed,
but I’m grateful to God for placing her in my world. In every single post, she
acknowledges God’s direction in her life as she embarks on a journey of
becoming an internationally and nationally-known author and speaker.
I live vicariously through her as she journeys to places to talk about her
book, “You Matter.” Each one of her posts is like a heartfelt, genuine journal
entry where she gives a firsthand look into her world. Her posts are usually
accompanied with photos, and she always ends them by expressing her gratitude
to God. That evening, in one of her posts, Jamicka ended the post with such an encouraging
message. She wrote, “We ALL have purpose and we can all support each other,
learn from each other, and grow together. I'm on a mission. BIG THINGS are
happening only by my Faith and Trust in God, and He will forever get the glory
in my life!”
At
that time, I had recently discovered my life’s purpose – the reason why I
exist. I was a bit fearful, and I didn’t know if I was able to fulfill the calling
on my life. I had an interest in writing and inspiring others with my positive messages. Whenever I come across Jamicka’s posts, I always see the work of
God on her life. She understood that she was on a mission as well, and that
encouraged me to pursue my dreams and goals.
One
of the reasons why I was afraid to take the leap was because of pride. I’ve
known some people who let pride get to them after they reach a level of success.
Sometimes, they forget where they come from and who got them to where they are
now. The Bible says, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace.” Jamicka’s
post was an “Aha” moment. It was the formula to combat any pride that may try to surface if I were
to ever reach that level of success. I loved how she always released all claims
to her success by giving all the glory to God. She wanted the world to know
that God – the Creator of this entire universe – was working on her behalf, and that all her achievements was because of Him!
What a powerful and bold statement!
That
moment, I decided to do the same in my future endeavors and whenever I have the
opportunity to give the reason for the hope I have! I am thankful that Jamicka
reminded me of this truth. I always hear about this truth at church and in my daily
readings of the Bible. However, her actions spoke louder than words. She was
putting her faith in action, and things were happening. She was going places,
and doing things. I thought to myself, “If God can do it for her, He can do it
for me, too!” That evening, I prayed and promised God that whatever I do from
now on, I will give Him all the glory and attribute all my success to Him!
Ever
since then, my life has changed. God heard my prayer, and within two days – TWO
days, I was invited to go on a radio interview about a book I had published last year. The following month, I held my first official public book reading. The month
after that, I was invited to be a part of the SpeakingWombs Global Women’s
Parliament at the United Nations-African Union! All glory goes to God!
Yes, I echo the words of Jamicka in that post: “We ALL have purpose and we can all support each other, learn from each other, and grow together. I'm on a mission. BIG THINGS are happening only by my Faith and Trust in God, and He will forever get the glory in my life!”

Cindy...It is wonderful to see God moving in your life. As you celebrate Jamicka, I celebrate you and all He is and will be doing through you. And YES, HE gets all the glory...ALWAYS. This writing journey gets exciting, fun, interesting, and even shaky at times (as you may have already witnessed). However, as we keep it all in perspective, always acknowledging the ONE who makes it all possible, we will always get to walk in His favor! Be blessed!!!
